The meaning of »Sali«

Una manciata di sale è come un tesoro fatto di piccole gemme ognuna delle quali racchiude la storia di un uomo, che come un granello di sale ha fatto un lungo viaggio …
Talvolta, se guardi una persona da vicino puoi vedere le strade che ha percorso nelle sue rughe, le acque che ha navigato nei suoi occhi, il sarcasmo e l'amore per la vita negli angoli della bocca, la fatica che ha fatto nelle sue mani, tutto il tempo vissuto nella sua voce.
Ogni storia ha in sé il segreto di tante storie e, come l’acqua che asciugandosi lentamente cede il suo prezioso carico di sale, così le parole rivelano il legame che unisce gli uomini.
Sono le stesse parole che si possono leggere sui corpi, nella lingua, nei gesti, nei sentimenti, nella musica della gente del mediterraneo che al sale è così intimamente legata e che nel sale trova, forse, lametafora di un’esistenza così preziosa ma al contempo così acre da bruciare ogni cosa.

A pinch of salt is like a treasure made up of small gemstones, each telling the story of a person who has travelled a long way, like a grain of salt...
Sometimes when we observe a person close up, we can see from the lines in their face the way they have come and from their eyes the waters they have crossed, and their voice tells of the time they have gone through. The corners of the mouth tell of sarcasm and the love of life, and the hands tell of efforts and achievements. Each life history hides the secret of many other stories. Like water which as it slowly dries away releases its valuable store of salt bit by bit, so words expose the mysterious connections which connect people with each other like a band. We can read these words in the bodies, the language, the gestures, the feelings and the music of the people of the Mediterranean. These people are closely bound to salt, and in salt maybe they find the metaphor for their existence, which is so valuable and yet so bitter that it could burn everything.
