Klaus Weiland

Listen to the Sky

Cat. Nr. 76661

Our price: EUR 11,50

Klaus Weiland is a guitarist and a singer/songwriter from his heart and soul. His style was influenced in the beginning, the late sixties, by the English virtuosos John Renbourne and Bert Jansch, by the German masterpicker Werner Lämmerhirt, and by the whole anglo-american Protest and Folkmovement of that time. Today his songs show an additional side to this Multi-faceted character: Freedom and a richness of being - not in any political or materialistic sense, but out of the deepest conviction: Life is one glorious, gigantic adventure.

For nearly thirty years he has traveled, with Ingrid his partner in adventure and life, first overland from Europe to India, then to North and Central America. Attempting to cross the Gulf of Mexico in a self built sailboat, they saved their lives in storm, by rescuing themselves onto an operating oil-rig in the middle of the night. For many years in New Orleans, and Key West, Florida, he now lives with his family in Texas.

His most ambitious, as yet unfinished adventure, is the C.R.E.A.T.E. Eco-Raft, a huge ocean-going raft, designed and built with his brother Chris and a team of volunteers, in Key West. Constructed completely of recycled objects: 20.000 plastic Coca-Cola bottles, 500 scrapped automobile tires, 12 miles of lobster trap-line, etc., the Eco-Raft sailed to Virginia where it lies waiting to complete the last leg of its journey: across the Atlantic ocean to Europe, under the Flag of UNEP the United Nations Environmental Programm.

Should this undertaking actually succeed, as he insists it will, "I whish him Godspeed and a safe journey. No doubt this adventure will provide material for many new songs, but for now I am glad to have had the chance to produce this album with him." (Friedemann)

"Listen to the Sky" has recieved considerable critical acclaim in Europe. As so many Biber productions it was "record of the month" in the music magazine STEREOPLAY, and the weekly trade magazine MUSIKWOCHE saw such potential of popular appeal that it predicted the CD to move into the top 50 of the German pop charts ("an extra classy collection of songs that will excite both folk and pop fans").
