Elena Ledda

Elena Ledda

After her vocal studies at the conservatory "Pier Luigi da Palestrina" in Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, Elena Ledda began to research the folklore of her native island. For many years she traveled across the island visiting the remotest mountain villages to learn the old songs and the styles of traditional singing. She gathered immense knowledge and has since become a consultant for Sardinian culture at the Italian State Broadcasting Station RAI in the city of Rome. More important though, Elena has become the most important living Sardinian singer, whose record sales in Sardinia compare with major international pop stars. It is no exaggeration when the renowned newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung writes that "Elena Ledda could play a similar role for the Mediterranean region as Mercedes Sosa plays for South America."
